Long Island Resto – King Crab Anyone?

After seeing the reality show “Deadliest Catch” (it’s about a bunch of fishermen trying to catch Alaskan Crab – King Crab) in Discovery Channel – Ian and I were wondering how it taste. (By the way – that job as King Crab fishermen is rated as the deadliest work in the world – those crab really pricey as it gets people going to the freezing Bearing Sea and risk their life!) And surprisingly, a restaurant in Jakarta is selling that! It’s an enormous crab – with size about 4 times of regular crab. Weight about 2-3 kg.

This one is the REAL king crab. See how humongous it is compare to human!

And this one is what in the Long Island Resto. Honestly, they looked unhealthy and quite small compare to the above, don't you think? But it's still amazing something as pricey as that is sold in developing country like Indonesia!

The first thing we checked was whether it’s cooked with alcohol or not – and 2 people say it’s not. And then when we asked the price, the lady said it’s going to be about 200,000 IDR or something. So we thought it’s cool lah for one time experience. When we sat down and order, the guy who take the order seem disbelieved we order that. And then he asked, “Errr… do you know how much that’s cost? It’s going to be about 2,000,000 IDR”. Hhh anyway, I guess we look like hobo or something until that guy asked that ha ha ha. Grrr… it turns out the lady was new, and she made wrong comment. Too pride to leave :D we finally order “usual” local crab. It was twice bigger then the usual though.

We end up only taking picture of the King Crab. It is huge! But the Chili Crab that got to our plate is quite big as well. Size wise – ok lah; enough to feed our hunger he he. But taste wise? Mmm not THAT good for the price. I mean, the sauce is not spicy enough; the crab mean taste somewhat sour especially at their hands. And I think to myself, THIS is suppose to be Singapore signature dish??? Ha ha ha, I swear the Padang Chili Sauce Crab tastes way better he he…

AFTER

Thank God we only order the usual crab – the King one taste would not justify the price. This place is definitely falls into category of things that nice to try but not triggering me for another visit in the future J

10 Things I want to do IF..............

There are a lot of things I want to do, or places I want to go BUT not necessarily able to do so for some reasons.

1. Going to Disneyworld.
Disneyworld, not the "usual"Disneyland - or that petite Hongkong Disneyland *sigh*. I'm talking about the Orlando version, that people say would take 3-4 days to fully enjoy it? Dang US. I don't feel safe going there cause they do those rendition thing, locking people up in Guantanamo for no real reason (which is a funny thing cause looks like on the contrary it looks like some of them afraid of Muslims :D)

2. Furniture tour in Europe
Does anyone knows the show in Discover Travel & Living "Day Trip Designer"? That guy is hoping from one city to the other just to find certain piece of furniture - sofa, table, or whatever. Well, I wish I can do that. Really want to see the IKEA center, interior design museum, and other stores that sell all sorts of homey stuffs. Hhh I wish! Same as point 1, also worry about safety - but maybe we can still work around somehow

3. Buy a great modern mansion in the city and have Tara Bernerd decorate it!
I hate suburb house. Hate is a strong word but when you don't have enough money - then you'll just have to deal with it ha ha... Well, actually it's not the house that's not fun. It's the LOCATION. Come on, 2.5 hours just one way! That doesn't sound fulfilling in any way. Definitely not in your gas tank :D Why Tara Bernerd? Man, she's just the best designer in the world! Well, at least that's what I think now. I saw her works in "The Wow Factor", and it's just breath taking. Well this point 3 is not related to safety, but more on budget issue hehe

4. 2nd Honeymoon in Maldives! (and stay in a great resort)
Aaawww... isn't that place just gorgeous? It's awesome. And breathtaking. Ian said, it wouldn't be that romantic you know with all the heat and sun beaming in your head. Well he may be right he he, but it's always good to have a dream place to do :D

Err... still in no 5, but it's already hard to think what else I want to do :-? Hmmm... O well, just on top of my mind lah yah.

5. Skiing, snow playing in Swiss + going to ice hotel!
After spending time on beaches, it make sense to spend time on ice haha... I saw snow once I think when I went to Seattle long long time ago. It wasn't as cold as I thought it would be. And it wasn't smooth (surprise surprise). It's hard, slipery, and wet. But I don't know, again, it look romantic in pictures :D

Errr... already run out of ideas! Let's just continue sometime else in part 2 :D

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ selama 1 bulan pertama nikah: How's married life?

FAQ selama 2-3 bulan pertama: Udah isi belon???

Pertanyaan yang pertama sih selalu aku jawab "Yah sama aja lah kayak waktu belon nikah, bedanya sekarang kayak tinggal bareng pacar aja wak ka ka". Errr ampe sekarang ga tahu dah jawaban "bener"nya apa.

Trus yang bikin bingung teh, why the hell people loves to track whether i'm pregnant or not?? Karena nikahnya terkesan mendadak kali yah ha ha... Jadi ntar klo jarak antara tanggal nikah sama tanggal ngelahirinnya > = 9 bulan 10 hari ga ha ha... Aku sering jawab aja belon, emang kita belum plan untuk punya anak.

Honestly setelah kita berdua pikir2, kita sama2 masih ga ngerti tujuan punya anak itu apa : Ada yang bilang, "ya itu kan stage hidup selanjutnya" --> and we were like *zingggg*.... Ada yang bilang buat meneruskan keturunan --> again another *zinggggg* Ada lagi yang bilang, "biar rame!" --> Ian actually replied "Err emangnya ga punya tipi kabel ya??"

Akhirnya kita put status baby decisionnya - TBD - to be determined :D Bukannya anti baby... It's just that, aku ngerasa belon siap lahir batin :D. Klo bayinya diem ketawa2 gitu sih lucu. Tapi klo udah nangis rewel gitu, aku masih refleks berusaha nyari tombol mute nya di mana (emangnya tipi!!!). Masih mikir, errr, ntar klo bapak ibunya mesti business travel ato kerja ampe malem (ato sekedar pengen jalan!) trus si kecil diapain?

Toh sekarang masih 25. Insya Allah secara biologis masih ada couple of years to think about it and determine. Kadang ngerasa bersalah sih ngeliat temen2 yang pengen banget punya anak tapi karena satu dan lain hal ga/belum bisa punya. Satu hal yang udah kita decide, klo pun sampai punya anak, kita harus bener2 udah yakin dan siap secara mental - bukan sekadar ikut2an, atau ngerasa "that's just what we have to do because everybody's doing it". I think to follow other ppl BLINDLY is just plain stupidity :D

Yang lucu, walopun blon jelas kita mo punya bebi atau ngga, tapi udah siap2 nama anak ha ha... Sebenernya ketemu ga sengaja waktu kita masih pacaran :P But I love the name so much! Ga mau share di sini ah, takut kecolongan he he...

OMG, must be cute!!!! Trus klo udah rada gede bisa jadi bintang sinetron ato model, lumayan bisa nyari uang sendiri sebelum dapet KTP --> loh??? Ga deng canda :P Klo kata Ian, udah starting with the wrong foot klo nikah sama dia terus expect dapet anak bule gitu kecuali kita pungut anak nyasar di luar negeri wak ka ka...

The Next Great Escape

Well, I already had my Hajj trip - so basically I don't owe any other compulsory religious trip. I already had my trip to Japan that I always wanted. I already went to Sampireun for my honeymoon. And I'm not too keen on Bali. So for quite sometime I honestly don't really know where to go for my next vacation.

I think vacation IS important. Without any escape from your usual routine, it'll be just boring living the same thing day by day. It's not always have to be expensive, I think even going camping or even stay at home can be an escape (yeah, just don't open that laptop to retrieve some working emails no more ha ha).

And then a friend of mine mentioning about this place. Maldives. I browse and I fell in love. I just GOT to go there, someday. You know when sometime the advertisement agent retouch the pictures with Photoshop just to make it look gorgeous - well Maldives don't need any retouch! It's really, really, really drop dead gorgeous...

First of all, I did want to go to a beachy place - which obviously Maldives have a lot *additional point*. And now I already have a legal partner to spend time with *additional point*. When I browse, it turns out the Maldives native is moslem, so halal food should not be too difficult to find *another additional point*.

But when looking on the price tag. Waks! The W Hotel rate is 3250 USD per night. And that's not including the airplane ticket, fiscal, snorkling, etc. Yeah right. That's just too much. Immediately browsing for budget travel in Maldives. 600 USD for 3 days, 2 nights - so it's about 200 USD per night. Hmmm...

After a lot of consideration, I think Maldives plan should be deprioritized for the time being. Who knows, maybe in 3-5 years from now we can go there *taking the budget budget packet - i mean*. But going now will be just too pushy - I mean, camping on the beach to save money and get drifted away at night and wake up in the middle of the sea doesn't sound too romantic ha ha...

So after discussion, we're thinking about going to Umang Island. About 4 hours away from Jakarta. Way cheaper than Maldives. Not as common as Bali. Errr although I do admit that from the photo it's not even anywhere near with Maldives in quality. *Sigh*
But I think I'll always have Maldives in my heart, and hopefully someday can go there. Anyone willing to pay for the trip???

My Name Is...

Hi there! I'm Yanti from Indonesia. Already happily married to Ian but I always claimed I'm politically single - whatever that means. Currently I'm working in a multinational consumer goods company, pretending to know about IT stuff. But somehow people falls for it ha ha...

On my spare time, I like to do anything related to interior design (but I don't like cleaning up) and enjoy taking vacation trips. Way back when, I do freelance writing - but not so much anymore. I think that's it for now, bye!
